Tongatapu ~ Main Island  Allow Four Days - to discover the island’s natural beauty and explore its historic attractions. There are the magnificent blowholes on the south western side of the island to the ancient capital of Mu’a - with its fascinating Terrace Tombs in the east.

Nearby is the mysterious Ha’amonga - the Stonehenge of the South Pacific.

Or just take a leisurely drive and explore the island for yourself. You may even find a secret beach.
If it is a Sunday a visit to church is a must to hear the voices of angels. A walk around Nuku’alofa is a must. See the Royal Palace and the Royal Tombs, and the many colonial houses still in use. International Dateline Hotel  The International Dateline Hotel has been Tonga’s flagship hotel since it opened in 1967 as part of the celebrations for King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV’s coronation. In 2003, as part of the King’s 86th birthday celebrations, he opened the new wing of the hotel which brought 60 new rooms into the tourism infrastructure.
Lagoon Lodge  On the shores of Fangakakau Lagoon, on the island of Tongatapu, only five minutes drive from the heart of the capital of Nuku’alofa, nestles Lagoon Lodge, Tonga’s newest and most exclusive self catering apartments.
Royal Sunset  Royal Sunset Island Resort is on ‘Atata Island and the property is set in an eight acre tropical garden only seven miles away from downtown Nuku’alofa.  The resort is in a beautiful natural environment, existing in harmony with a traditional fishing village which provides staff, fish, entertainment and a wonderful cultural exchange experience for guests.  As well as the peaceful surroundings and the village association the resort is known for its superb diving and sportfishing.

Vavau Island  Vava’u group of Islands - the sailing paradise of the Pacific.

The waters of Vava’u are truly magnificent - you can see the bottom at 40 metres. Maybe that is why the whales keep coming back each year!

Charter a boat and take some time to explore the beautiful waterways and discover for yourself why Vava’u is one the world’s most favoured sailing destinations. Day trips are also available if you prefer.

Swim inside the Swallows Cave and dive into Mariners Cave or discover the calm waterways by sea kayak. If you are feeling up to it why not venture out overnight and stay under the stars on your own white sandy beach.

Try your hand at game fishing and if you’re lucky enough to visit during June and November why not have a swim with a whale.

For a day on land, take a stroll through Neiafu and stop and have a drink, lunch or even dinner at one of the great cafes or restaurants overlooking the Port of Refuge. For the fit and energetic, a climb to the top of Mt Talau is not to be missed.

There are more than 50 islands in the Vava’u Group so get out and explore as much as possible! Some you can get to by land, others by water and some you can even stay on overnight.

Hakula Lodge  Hakula Lodge is the ideal base for serious anglers …or for people just wanting to enjoy the pleasures Tonga’s northern island of Vava’u. It is exceptionally comfortable and ideally located.  The accommodation/fishing/whale watching combination makes it the perfect place for an angling holiday. There is also a great chance of catching the mighty marlin in the beautiful waters off Vava’u.
Hill Top  The Hotel has been refurbished and now offers four excellent air-conditioned rooms overlooking the harbour and four garden view rooms with fans. Each room has private bathroom, hot/cold water. The first class Sunset Restaurant is incorporated in the Hotel and it offers a touch of Italy in the South Pacific.
Lucky Beach  Lucky’s is right on the beach and offers guests the choice of 2 traditional Tongan fales or 2 European style beach houses. Guests can self cater or there are excellent meals available. Snorkelling, surfing, sport fishing, diving, whale watching and other sightseeing activities can all be arranged. Laundry and kayaks available on site.
Mounu Island  Absolute peace and privacy in a pristine tropical setting. Mounu is a six acre coral atoll fringed by white coral sands set among spectacular coral reefs.  Three superior private fales (units) each situated on the waters edge providing stunning views of the surrounding coral reefs and islands.  Each fale offers twin or double beds, toilet, hot shower and private sundeck. Our restaurant specialises in fresh seafood dishes and our bar carries a wide range of drinks..
Mystic Sands  Mystic Sands Beachfront Bungalows consists of four western style units with private verandahs on the beach, 10 minutes’ drive from Neiafu. You can swim and snorkel just our your front door. Each spacious and clean unit has its own private bathroom, hot shower, plus a kitchenette with stove, refrigerator, dishes and cookware. The rooms have ceiling fans and screens and great views of the sea and islands. For your convenience, the well known ‘Tongan Beach Resort’ is just a short walk up the beach, serving three excellent meals per day, and with a comfortable bar/lounge. You are welcome to partake of these services. Catch a fish or by a lobster at the local market and cook it yourself on the garden barbecue. Swimming, snorkelling and reef walking are all part of the experience at Mystic Sands. As well, there is a pier out front that can be used to dock a rental boat to tour the islands at your pleasure. Diving, fishing sailing and island trips are happily arranged for you by the friendly managers and staff. Rental cars, bikes and scooters are also available.
Paradise  The Paradise until recently was the only hotel in Neiafu but it still worked at giving service as if it was in a competitive situation. The hotel has sweeping views over the Port of Refuge Harbour and is known for its fine food.
There are 48 rooms and a swimming pool that has been designed to make you feel like a million dollars.
Puataukanave  This hotel was only opened in late 2003 and it is a great addition to Vava’u. It’s in the heart of Neiafu, overlooking the Port of Refuge Harbour and complete with waterfront restaurant and bars, swimming pool, tennis court and organised for all marine activities.
Reef Resort  The resort has four stunning bungalows (fales) each with air conditioning, private decks, walk-in showers, tea/coffee making facilities, refrigerator and the most amazing sea views.  Finished to a high standard with tasteful furnishings and a modern feel, the resort has been designed to blend in with the local environment and minimize the impact on this little known pearl of the Pacific. The crystal clear waters provide brilliant snorkelling and one of the best snorkelling spots in Vava’u, the Japanese Gardens, is just off the beach.  Kayaks and snorkelling gear are available for guest’s use. The famous Swallows Cave can be accessed from the resort by kayak and Port Maurelle, a tranquil bay and safe anchorage is only a short walk away. In addition, each fale has a music system for connection to an iPod or MP3 player and has WiFi internet access.  Whales may also be seen from the resort in the season. Scuba Diving, Sport Fishing, Whale Watching (July-October) Surfing, Sailing and even Kart Safaris can be arranged with reputable local operators.

The Tongan Beach Resort is very pleased to be associated a number of professional dive tourism companies who offer dive shops, air fills, souvenirs, rentals, photography and magnificent diving - see fabulous caves, walls, fans and colours. In addition to diving, The Tongan Beach Resort is in the enviable position of being able to offer WHALE WATCHING tours to our guests. We are on the seasonal migration path of the Humpback whale and these magnificent mammals can often be seen with their young. There are few things in this world that can rival swimming with whales, and seeing their beauty and scale in the crystal clear waters of the Pacific.  Snorkelling is available year round straight off our beach or a short boat ride from the resort, we can arrange day or half day boat trips, island hopping, snorkeling, visiting caves and places of interest. Snorkelling gear is available free of charge to our guests.  Kayaking is a fantastic way to enjoy Vava’u and we also have kayak’s free of charge for our guests.
